the coolest person I have ever met sat in front of my phone and talked about Africa for 7 minutes and I really think you should watch it
just a quick note from me ~ I'm still in the Zambian bush and the wifi has an emotional + spiritual breakdown every 6 minutes / every time I open up substack or youtube
I bought a gimble and figured out the password to my youtube account from 4 years ago so it’s safe to say I’m making MOVES. Seriously though, I was talking with my dear pal Erica, queen of youtube and founder of Moan Inc, and she essentially was like why the hell don’t you vlog when you travel//you need to build up your youtube library pre the release of this insane project that’s in the works for August 2023. As always, my work wife was right, so I’m dipping my TOE in the pool of youtube.
I do feel incredibly lucky when it comes to my travels and even luckier when it comes to the people I have been fortunate enough to meet so I’m honestly very keen to add in-situ interviews and longer-form travel vlogs to the chaotic cocktail that is Cosi’s Odyssey. History, archaeology and mythology will still be the overarching, uniting threads that tie this bundle together but with some flexibility to evolve based on which corner of the earth I’m currently scuttling around.
Now onto KINGSLEY. This man. Is. The coolest person in the world. No matter what I write I will fail to do him justice. He’s like an ancient bard crossed with Tarzan. Crossed with an unproblematic early explorer (if that exists). Tarzan-Homer. Homer-the-explorer. Homeric Tarzan of the high seas. I think we’re getting further away from an appropriate nickname. Moving ON.
If you’re as impatient as me and require no further convincing, watch the video HERE:
The Smoke That Thunders: Kingsley Holgate on Africa, the last Great Frontier of Adventure
If you require a smidge more convincing, here’s his bio pulled from his website:
“Kingsley Holgate is a humanitarian adventurer, author, TV personality, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Land Rover Ambassador, speaker at the New York Explorers Club and a legend that Getaway Magazine calls ‘the most travelled man in Africa’.”
I mean WHAT a bio. He’s also just the loveliest man. Head to my instagram for pics of him and/or head to his website to learn more about all the amazing work he does.
My internet has glitched about a dozen times whilst writing this so I’ll wrap things up there but please do watch the video/subscribe to my channel/share this newsletter etc etc etc 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶
(I’ll be back in London in a few days and will be back to writing longer form newsletters with piles of pretty pictures very soon).
